The rich golden tones of the bridal suite create an exquisite background for wedding photos.
What a fabulous day for a winter wedding! The 16th of December brought clear blue skies and not a breath of wind, even the Tricolour, high above on the roof Kilronan Castle, rested without a flutter. All making it a perfect day for Orla and Stephen’s wedding. Orla and her bridesmaids and flower-girls, with mum’s help, were getting ready in the bridal suite. The luxury of staying at the castle the night before is very relaxing and the golden tones of the bridal suite create an exquisite background for wedding photos. A wedding dress hanging form the four poster bed seems in exactly the right place.
Stephen and the guys were staying on the grounds of Kilronan and not having quite the preparations the ladies have they had time to explore the castle with David. A few quick prep shots and then out into the amazing sunshine. The low winter light created dramatic shadows across the lush lawns and without the lack of leaves on trees you would be hard pushed to tell it was nearly Christmas. A quick visit to the castle bar to raise a glass and it was time for the men to make their way to the church in a wonderful vintage bus.

Stunning winter Wedding Photos @ Lough Meelagh and Kilronan Castle
Following a delightful ceremony in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Keadue, David captured the family wedding photos while Orla and Stephens guests made the short drive along Lough Meelagh to Kilronan Castle. As the wedding party made its way back towards the castle they stopped at the eastern shore of the lake. The mirror smooth surface of the water reflected the deep edge of golden reeds and the weakening afternoon sunlight just catching the hillside beyond. Winter allows the castle to be seen peeking above the trees at the far side of the lake keeping the story of the day very much within the context of Kilronan. Arriving back at the hotel there was still a glimpse of light in the sky for exterior photos and then lots of excellent photo opportunity within the interiors to enjoy. The candle lit wine cellars and stunning Christmas trees, the very atmospheric passageway full of tall candelabras leading down to the ballroom and the deep buttoned velvet seat all offer amazing locations for wedding photos. But probably the most dramatic at this time of year is when the sky has darken to a deep navy blue and the architecture of the castle is empathised by the golden glow of light shining through the tall mullioned windows. This is a glorious backdrop affording incredible photos for a wedding album
